Cardrona Forest




A Forestry Commission of Scotland woodland, Cardrona forest is located close to Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders. The mixed conifer woodland offers a variety of walking options with lovely views up the Tweed Valley towards Glentress forest.

There is also a lovely picnic area, car parking and toilets, set in a secluded spot alongside a pleasant stream at this site, and opportunities to spot local wildlife.

The nearest town is Peebles and if you take the B7062 east from there for approximately three and a half miles you will find the entrance to the forest on your right. The Kirkburn car park now has a daily charge of £3, which helps support the ongoing management of facilities in Cardrona forest and the Tweed Valley Forest park.

Three of varying lengths are:

  • Burn Trail (0.2 miles/0.4 kms, grade: all-abilities, allow 15 mins)
  • Kirkburn Trail (2.6 miles/4.1 kms, grade: easy, allow 1 hr 15 mins)
  • Wallace’s Trail (3.5 miles/5.6 kms, grade: moderate, allow 2 hrs 15 mins)

Getting there:

Take the B7062 east from Peebles for approximately three and a half miles. The entrance to Cardrona Forest is on the right.
