Glentress Mountain Biking

Glentress is probably the best mountain biking centre in Britain. A winner of several awards, it has superb trails of all grades, a top-notch cafe, a bike shop with bike hire, changing and showering facilities and a wonderful atmosphere.

Situated in the heart of the spectacular Tweed Valley, Glentress Forest, one mile east of Peebles on the A72 towards Inverleithen, has benefited in recent years through the Forestry Commission building many new all-weather mountain bike paths throughout the forest, and there is no doubt that some of them are among the greatest single-track routes that you will find anywhere.

All the routes start from the main car park nearest to the entrance of the forest and there are three colour-coded routes of varying length and difficulty, so there is one to suit all degrees of skill and experience. The black route is the longest, skirting the perimeter of the forest and taking you to the highest points, Dunslair Heights. It is mostly technical single track, with long climbs and descents, testing for both skill and stamina. The red route is not quite as long or as technical, but it still has good viewpoints and some testing climbs.

Beginners or those warming up for bigger things, will find the blue route ideal.Again, it is mostly on single track, which is easy enough to build confidence but testing enough to make you want to move on to more demanding challenges.
